Editor's Letter

January 2008

A very happy New Year to you all this crispy, cold January. I hope you had a fantastic festive season and are now fighting fit, alert and ready to embrace 2008. I know I am. I love the beginning of the year – rather than allow myself to get depressed by the weather and the fact that the family and friends fun has subsided – I use this time to
think positively about my direction for the coming year.

In reality we have little idea of what lies ahead for us, although with our structured and organised lives we can guess much of it. However, we know the year will be
peppered with events that we have yet to encounter, exciting people to meet and service, new beginnings and new directions for our businesses, hearts and our
families. Oh yes it’s exciting times ahead for us all. So spend some time refl ecting on the old and embracing the idea of the new. Then I’m sure you’ll feel as perky as me!

With the New Year comes new additions to Scratch magazine to get you in the mood for business evolution. There are new columnists Kerry Moores, Linda Butler,
Sabrina Malik, Samantha Watkinson and Kate Taylor, all biting at the bit to inspire and educate you with their expertise and most excellent nail advice.

Another exciting monthly feature you’ll find here is The Stomp Scratch Awards. Devised by the inspirational Izayah Jeffrey who made his name by coming from nowhere and walking away with the Division 1 Winner of Winners accolade at the Nailympics London in 2005, this award system is designed to recognise and celebrate iindustry innovation and excellence in both products and people. This award can be backdated or awarded for present genius – either way – it’s Scratch’s way of noting purebred industry excellence. And to make the award special, Izayah has used his unique style of modern art – Modpop – to create a stunning image of the winner. Turn to page 54 to see who is the first to receive a Stomp Scratch Award.

As I sign off I’d just like to remind you that as we move towards the 2008 competition calendar, The Nailympics London is on the nail horizon. Put the date in your diary now – 18-19 May 2008 at Olympia Beauty , Kensington. The general make-up of this competition remains unchanged, however, fundamental changes have been made and should be recognised by all competitors so please turn to page 38 to fi nd out more and then order your Nailympics pack which highlights all the information you need.

So I reckon you ’ll be busy for a while, see ya in Feb!
