March 2008

It seems we are already ploughing into 2008 and the memory of winter is just that – a memory!

So we can now put on our happy faces and march into spring with a new attitude. I have found, while compiling this issue, some extremely inspirational titbits that should give each and every tech a new idea or concept for their business. Take note of Tony Cuccio – get a cuppa, sit down and digest the advice he offers on doubling your income without doubling your elbow grease! He speaks many words of wisdom.

I was truly arrested by this month’s cover story profile. David Fowler – what a tech! I can’t
imagine a reader out there that won’t think he is truly talented and skilled. He too possesses
and shares some wonderful anecdotal hints and tips that are bound to resonate around the nail world – don’t miss David – he’s a nail force to be reckoned with!

Quote of the month
"I always tell techs that they win by simply participating, and although it’s nice to stand there with a trophy in your hand, not everybody will hold that trophy. Winning nails are nails with soul and if the nail echnician can get past the nerves associated with competing and lay down a set of nails that they put their soul into, those will be the winning nails. "
David Fowler, Scratch March cover tech

You may feel ready to revamp your service menu, if so, why not give your pedicure arena ‘a brush and a tidy’? Gemma Ward has explored the world of pedicure treats and found a phenomenal selection of delicious treatments that turn this footcare regime into a royal pamper with endless possibilities. Truly, there are some amazing pedicure systems and services across the globe to inspire you as well as excite your clientele. You read it here first – Gemma has footcare facets and factors all sewn up!

If you love fashion then you’ll really enjoy the Look Book entrée that Scratch is serving up this month. CND claims it not only grooms the nails on catwalks, but is also at the forefront of the nail design too. Well see for yourself on pages 82-83. The design delivery is spectacular.

I hope you have been enjoying the Scratch Stomp Awards series that is now in its third month. The reason I bring this up, is that I would like the December 2008 accolade to be the Reader’s Choice Award. So get your thinking cap on – what do you feel best deserves recognition in this industry? Is it a person, a product, a system, an instrument, tool, kit or concept? You decide and email me. You have months to do this, so don’t feel obliged to zap it over just yet – mull it over and then send me your vote. Just email me with the person or product name and I will keep a tally of all votes. Thank you for your time on this!

There is an absolute wealth of material and ideas in this month’s Scratch – so get comfy and read on…
