SALON IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Glitz & Glam Nail Van, Stockport

Rachael Beaumont decided it was time to hit the road – literally! After initially working from a summer house in her garden, a recent  relocation provided some unexpected inspiration for her nail business. “With a recent house move, I had the idea to try something new and different. I like a challenge! I considered variety of options for my business but decided to set up a mobile nail van as it would be a great and fairly new concept and would work well for me, too.

“You don’t see many mobile nail or beauty vans around,” laughs Rachael. “I have the option of pulling up outside a client’s house. It’s great, especially if the client can’t drive. Clients can still come to me if they like, but being a mobile salon gives me the opportunity to attend festivals, fayres and events too in the future.”

The VW van has been convenient to Rachael, too. Currently working part-time around school hours, Rachael also has scoliosis curvature of the spine. “I’ve had major surgery on my spine so I am fused with metal rods. It does restrict how much I do but it doesn’t stop me. People must think I’m crazy!”

The set-up hasn’t restricted Rachael in terms of treatments, with a range of hand and nail services to tempt. “Gelish gel polish manicures and PolyGel enhancement or overlays are my main and specialist treatments. I also offer Magpie Beauty glitters, stamped nail designs and nail art. I also offer standard nail polish manicures.”

“I wanted to create an glitzy and sparkly yet classy and glamourous set-up. I chose a colour scheme of black, silver, grey and white, as it would suit the metallic dark blue van. I also wanted black, glittering worktops and table, as well as a grey sparkly floor. I think a bit of sparkle makes everyone happy! I believe the van caters to young and old; it’s quirky, happy, sparkly and glamorous.”
