WEEK 1

Being asked to do the nails for Dancing on Ice was overwhelmingly exciting, and I screamed with delight when I got the call – much to the confusion of many passers-by. I loved the show when it was on our screens four years ago and now I’m behind the scenes – OMG!

Marcos Gurgel, an incredible make-up artist who I have known for about six years now, is heading up the hair and make-up team this year and helped me secure the post. He has worked on TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Big Brother and The Jump and his creativity and ideas are amazing.

My first day was at the studios involved working alongside the hair and make-up teams to prepare for a full dress rehearsal. As soon as I got to the hair and make-up room I could tell it was going to be manic, especially as I am the only nail technician behind-the scenes! Luckily, I’ve always worked in fast paced work environments so it wasn’t as daunting as it might seem.

The room was filled with hair and make-up artists and their incredible kits. It’s hard not to get distracted with it all! They were working on 24 celebrities and skaters so you can imagine – it was all go, go, go. As soon as I got there, I got to work, with 15-25 mins per skater to remove their current nail look and replace them with a new colour or design that Marcos and I worked on to match their gorgeous costumes – all while they were having their hair and make-up applied.

With no time to spare, I started on actress, Brooke Vincent. For all my gel polish manicures, I applied the GELLUX Clear Base/Top Coat. This always ensures my manicures last and the finish is super shiny. It’s an essential in my kit! I use the GELLUX 10-second Curing Lamp which was ideal for the speedy nail looks I needed to complete.

Bake Off’s Candice Brown wore a gorgeous gold, glitzy dress so felt the Lecente Lunar Stardust from Sweet Squared complemented her outfit beautifully.

The day went so quickly but I managed a sneak peek at the dress rehearsal and my mum was extremely jealous! By 8pm I had finished all celebrities and skaters. It was a long day but absolutely loved every minute. Watch this space for more nail designs as the show continues!Athlete, Perri Shakes-Drayton had the most incredible hair and make-up design for her first week, featuring blue lights in her hair and a gorgeous blue glitter liner, so I matched the nails to her liner. I custom made this glitter using the Magpie Glitters in Bluebell, Tiffany and Jennifer. It was the perfect match!
