Have you ever wondered what brands and colours influential, powerful and famous women wear on their nails? So have we, so we’ve done some digging and discovered the nail colours worn by the women we love and admire.

What colour would the Queen choose to have on her nails? The royal stamp of approval goes to the Ballet Slippers shade by Essie; a beautifully elegant pale pink which the Queen has been wearing for decades – in fact, since 1989, when Her Majesty’s hairdresser requested a bottle of Ballet Slippers be sent to Buckingham Palace.

Queen Bey on the other hand, wears every nail colour, trend and shape on the planet. For the superstar’s legendary Super Bowl performance, her manicurist Lisa Logan began with the OPI Natural Nail Base Coat, before painting her nails in the OPI shade ‘Black Onyx’ and finishing with the OPI Matte Top Coat.

Michelle Obama has been known to love OPI’s limited edition ‘Dreams Need Clara-fication’ and has labelled the shade as one of her go-to colours. A chic sky blue colour, the product was part of the OPI The Nutcracker Collection, a collaboration with Disney for the release of the The Nutcracker and the Four Realms movie in 2018.

Marilyn Monroe’s makeup bag was sold at Christie’s in 1999, and although the owner has remained anonymous, the contents have been made public. The classic red shade Marilyn so often wore on her nails was revealed to be the Revlon colour ‘Cherries a la Mode’ which the brand has since sadly discontinued.

Malala has been photographed many times wearing a sophisticated pale pink polish, so much so that Aussie brand Pax Polish even named their baby pink shade after her. The girls’ education advocate was the British Vogue cover star in June 2021, where her nails were painted in her much loved pale pink shade by celebrity manicurist Adam Slee.
