Lcbt Star Awards 2017

Last Friday, Scratch editor, Helena, and I travelled to London to attend the annual LCBT Star Awards, which serve to recognise talented, hardworking students from the college.

A glamorous affair, the awards were held at the Hilton Hotel next to London Victoria where guests were greeted with cold refreshments upon arrival. Everybody then found a seat inside a decorated function room before Christianne de Moncayo, CEO of LCBT, took to the stage to welcome attendees, including students, relatives and representatives from award sponsors.

LCBT awarded students from a wide variety of categories, from Facial Therapist of the Year through to Fitness Personal Trainer of the Year and English and Maths Student of the Year. For the Manicurist of the Year category, which was sponsored by Scratch, Helena took to the stage to announce student Nina Hassan as the worthy winner. Not only did Nina receive a certificate, but she was also presented with a goody bag and a free magazine subscription for a year.

Halfway through the ceremony, Tracy Woodward, CEO of Aromatherapy Associates, took to the stage to share her story of hard graft and determination, telling students that adversity should never be a barrier to success. Later, celebrity nail technician, Kimberley Nkosi, stepped up to the microphone to inspire students and reveal how tending to the nails of A-list celebrities, including singer Ellie Goulding and actress Jennifer Lawrence, has become nothing more than a normal day’s work.

Following the announcement of all awards, the winners descended upon the stage for a group photograph before everyone stepped outside of the function room to find a mouth-watering array of canapés on display. It was a chance for everyone to mingle and reflect upon their achievements, and it was a lovely way to end a truly positive event.
