The Derby beauty salon where clients & staff are ‘one big family’

Meet Holly Asamoah, owner of BFLY – the beauty salon creating a home from home.

BFLY, located two miles south of Derby city centre, was converted from a tattoo parlour to a luxurious relaxation hub in 2024, spearheaded by owner, Holly Asamoah. The salon space is reflective of Holly’s preferred home décor. “I chose neutrals, nudes and gold for a sense of luxury and calm,” she comments. “I have this theme in my home and it creates a relaxing atmosphere.”

“BFLY is a place where people come to let off steam, can relax and have a laugh, as well as share deep and hard conversations,” says Holly. The salon aims to be a safe space for clients to prioritise self-care and ‘forget the stresses of the world’.
Holly trained at East Midlands College, earning qualifications in a range of services. She now runs BFLY and manages her team of seven employees, including two nail techs, two hairdressers, a brow and lash expert, a permanent jewellery pro and an aesthetician and fine line tattooist. “We are a mixture of extroverts and introverts, and we balance and complement each other so well,” Holly acknowledges.

The team offers gel polish, L&P acrylic and builder gel services: the latter being most popular. It uses a range of brands from Glossify to Glitterbels and The GelBottle Inc.
Holly’s aim is for clients to feel ‘like they are a part of something special’. “We laugh and cry, have prosecco and food,” she says with a chuckle. “It’s like home; we are all one big family – clients and staff included!
“Knowing I have a team of amazing, talented women working alongside me is incredible,” Holly continues. “I hope one day to be able to develop BFLY salons in other areas of the Midlands.”
