Mobile techs – carrying around a full salon set up is no easy feat, so be wary of the strain this may cause. Even though you’re on the move, hygiene, as well as health and safety, should be paramount to your service as a professional.

A streamline kit with miniature bottles and lightweight equipment, carried in a case with wheels should be considered. Alternatively, why not try a smaller box or case for each of your services to be retrieved when as and when needed?

The HSE advises workers to keep the load close to the waist and kept close to the body for as long as possible while lifting. Also keep the heaviest side of the load next to the body. Ensure you have a good grip on your case and avoid twisting your back or leaning sideways. Keep your head up, look ahead and not down at the load.

The nature of your business means you’re never guaranteed the ideal working environment as you might have in a salon or treatment room. Account for poor lighting with a portable desk lamp and extension cable, both annually PAT-tested.

You may also want to consider investing in a portable, lightweight manicure table. With many options available on the market, the professionally looking desk will help see an efficient service, as well as helping to avoid damage to client property with spills and scuffs. You may also want to consider carrying a specialist, technicians’ stool to help with your own comfort and posture.
