What do you do for a living? “I just do nails.”

I was never interested in nails and beauty when I was younger. In fact, I bit my nails until I was 25! I was embarrassed by them though, and finally managed to (sort of) kick the habit. And that’s when my professional nail journey began.

I had always thought that a job in nails and beauty would be low paid, and that the only way to make money was to own a salon – which required a big pile of cash to begin with. What a misbelief that was!

I started doing nails in 2016 in my spare room. This room had a double bed in it, which was used by my parents-in-law when they came to stay. Now, I’m proud to say that I have two Scratch Stars Awards under my belt and a seven-figure business. I built it with my own hands, brain, nail kit and a laptop.

It doesn’t matter where you started and how little money, experience or success you have had up to now. Your nail or beauty business can change your life, just like it has mine, with a few focus points.

Step one of my Client Magnetisation Method is ‘An Epic You’. In order to have greater business success, you must continue to upgrade your self-belief, confidence and mindset. In doing this, you don’t have to get by making a bit of money doing nails; you get to be that nail tech who is fully booked months in advance and has a great clientele, while making a profit in the process!

I know quite a lot of techs now who are bringing in between £3-5k per month, working just four days a week. I want to share the difference I see in their mindset with you:

  • They think strategically. Not that many nail techs hit £1k per week, and that is down to the belief of it not being possible. Once you start seeing that people achieve this without a salon and without a team, you can start to strategically look at how this is possible.

I teach a couple of strategies around this, such as the £1k a Week Diamond Blueprint and the Fully Booked Effect. These centre around leveraging the success you already have, rather than getting fully booked and closing your books to new clients. It also requires a look at how much time you have to work and build your business, in order to match what you want to earn.

  • They have strong boundaries. The £1k a week nail techs get to this level because they are not trying to be all things to all people. They don’t feel the need to people please or bend over backwards to accommodate everyone. In fact, many of the nail techs I know at £1k weeks say their businesses are less stressful now, than when they earned half the amount.

If you need better boundaries, start by writing out how you actually want your business to run, rather than letting your business run you. I like to remind my Nail Business Success Club members that you can treat your business as a separate entity to you to remove some of the emotion attached.

  • They have a growth mindset. They are not panicking, worrying or taking reduced action for days or weeks when they get knocked back. Knockbacks are inevitable in business, and the quicker you can get back on that horse, the quicker you will find success. One bad review won’t ruin your business. A bad set of nails won’t ruin your business. A few cancelled clients in one week might be frustrating, but they won’t ruin your business. The only thing that can stop your business from growing, is if you stop learning and growing. Take each setback as a lesson, rather than a personal attack against your ability to succeed.

Everyone can get fully booked and everyone has the opportunity to earn great money. You don’t just do nails! You are an incredible, creative, passionate person who is starting their entrepreneurial journey and your potential is infinite.
