Formerly a freelance make-up artist, Lolli decided it was time for a career change during lockdown. Enrolling in a range of online and in-person training courses when the industry opened back up, she began to develop her skill set.

“My most in-depth and worthwhile training, where I learnt the majority of my application skills, was with Jojo Wickens for Light Elegance. This was where I truly began to build my confidence and knowledge,” she shares.

“Unintentionally, I think my signature style has become a feature nail or two, usually with a natural shade for the canvas using HONA’s Purebuild.

“My favourite designs to create are character nail art and a colour marble,” Lolli reveals. “I really enjoy creating marble looks with inks, as the effect is always different on each nail.”

Based in Newhaven, East Sussex, Nail Artistry by Lolli offers one-to-one experiences for clients, welcoming those from a range of diverse backgrounds. “I wanted my salon to be an inclusive environment for all,” Lolli explains.

“It’s important to me that my business is respectful and inclusive to everybody, which is also why I use vegan and cruelty-free products in the salon. I have the same ethos in my personal life, and ensure I use vegan beauty products at home.

“My clients really appreciate having a calm and quiet area to relax in.”

In the future, Lolli is looking forward to making her business full-time, as her skillset continues to grow. She also has goals to become an educator for a brand and continue to further her knowledge.

“For the industry as a whole, I would love to see it get to a point where every nail technician and business is pricing themselves correctly and fairly,” she adds.

“My favourite thing about the nail industry is definitely the community,” Lolli smiles. “I have been really lucky to meet some wonderful people in this industry and create lifelong friendships. The events that I have been to have made the business feel less isolating, and have really opened my eyes to what else is out there for this career.

“My first invites to events were in 2023, and they’re my favourite memories of my time in the industry so far. I attended HONA’s Moonlight Fiesta community event and the NAILMAIL Advent Launch Party. I met so many incredible people and learnt so much! Both events were truly inspiring and it was amazing to feel a part of it all.

“Something I always say to clients when they ask what I think about a new local nail tech or salon is that there are enough hands to go around. Don’t let anyone make you feel like you are in direct competition with the other businesses in your area.

“You are not limited to just your street or town. If you focus on this competitiveness too much, you will lose your spark and individuality and be constantly comparing your work to others. Be yourself and let your nail tribe find you through your amazing talents!”
