Scratch chats to Sophie Rogers of Sophie’s Beauty Bar about her nail training and how she created this dreamy pink design….

From a young age, I knew I wanted to work within the beauty industry. However, it wasn’t until October 2020, after I was made redundant from my job, that I decided to train with The Gel Bottle and become a nail technician.

I am so glad I chose to train with The Gel Bottle, I definitely made the right decision. Its educators are so helpful and really invest their time into the each student – and this extends beyond the course.

I am still in touch with my educator who is always there if I need anything!

The Gel Bottle has a highly pigmented, beautiful colour range. Its products are extremely long-lasting as well as cruelty free and vegan which is so important to my clients and I. It offers Builder In A Bottle, which has been a game changer for me and transformed the nails of my clients. Some of them now have their dream nails and it’s all thanks to The Gel Bottle.

I also decided to invest in my beautiful tools from Navy Pro Tools and my prep time has halved since using then. Ethel and Doris are my must-have products.

I also love Brillbird, SNA Professional, Nail Stamping Queen and Chameleon Glitter, the brands have everything you’ll ever need for nail art!

Throughout lockdown, I have invested my time in trying to learn as much as possible and trying out new designs and techniques.  I have definitely taken advantage of the amazing educators and talented nail technicians offering workshops!

My all time favourite nail art to create would have to be anything abstract, as I love such unique and funky designs. I also enjoy taking inspiration from cute Pinterest patterns.

How-to:

To create this set of nails, I headed to Pinterest to find some inspiration, and I came across the cutest pattern ever. I decided to recreate it on the nails!

First, I applied SNA Professional Quick Tips in the shape “Almond Long”. I then applied two coats of The Gel Bottle’s Marshmallow, curing in between coats. For the nail art, I used The Gel Bottle’s Marilyn, Pink Lady, Daisy, Candy, Vegas and Strike A Pose, which I applied using The Gel Bottle’s Liner Nail Art Brush and Detail Nail Art Brush. To finish, I applied The Gel Bottle’s Extreme Shine Top Coat.

A highlight of my career so far would have to be being selected as a finalist for The UK Hair and Beauty Awards for the ‘Best New Talent‘ category. I could not believe it when I received the ‘Congratulations’ email, it was definitely a pinch me moment!

I absolutely love working within the nail industry, I love waking up every morning feeling excited to start the day and having genuine passion for my job. Doing something you love definitely doesn’t feel like work! I have also met so many lovely nail technicians who have been so supportive, positive and inspiring. We are always there for each other, sharing tips and ideas and building one another up. There are so many nail technicians out there, but I believe supporting one another and celebrating each others successes is so important. There are millions of stars in the sky, yet they’re all able to shine!

I hope to keep learning as much as possible, to perfect my techniques and to just always stay positive. I would love to open up my own salon and maybe even work alongside some other talented nail technicians and beauty therapists to create the ultimate beauty bar. I know with hard work, self belief and dedication dreams can become reality.
