Pixie White decided to make the move into the nail realm for a magical career change. “I was a counsellor for years, working with young offenders and people with addictions and mental health issues, as well as the homeless,” explains Pixie.

Moving from Chester to Launceston, North Cornwall, from Chester nearly four years ago, Pixie was presented with the chance to try another career. “I’ve always been arty and creative,” she explains. “I decided to go to college last September and complete my Level 2 in nails.

“I took to it like a duck to water and I passed with flying colours – earlier than most of my class!”

The relocation also provided the ideal set-up for a new nail business. “My back room is kind of separate to my house, with its own entrance, utility and toilet. It was a no-brainer!

“I think I am different to most salons, because, not only is the atmosphere unique but when you walk in, it is like entering a magical Wizard’s room!

“My salon is a part of me. It reflects my love of anything magical – especially Harry Potter! Tintagel Witches museum is only half an hour up the road and I love it there. You could say I took some inspiration from it! I want to send the message that you can come to me and forget the outside world for a while. You can work with me and we will use a bit of magic and wizardry to get your perfect nails! Even my glitter bottles have potion labels on them!”

Currently offering manicures, pedicures, gel polish and acrylic service, Pixie has been kept busy since opening. “I give a personal bespoke service to each and every client. My clients feel special, and unrushed. At my nail desk, I only use Nailchemy products. When I was researching what range to go with, I couldn’t believe it when I came across them. I felt like the range was made for me. You can mix and experiment with the products to create different effects. It feels like making your own magic! I have also found the customer service to be incredible – something which has really helped with me starting out.

“I have had so much good feedback from my studio. People seem to love my room. One lady said it felt like I should read her Tarot cards too!

“It seems I haven’t quite left my counselling behind me, too. The clients I have seem to feel comfortable talking to me about all their problems. I think this is something that goes with any job in which you give personal treatments as it’s intimate. People like to offload a little. I like to think that my room, service and personal touch is a combination that makes for a pretty special nail appointment!
