Salon in the Spotlight: Beautify Salon and Training Academy, Broadstairs, Kent

Dionne Lock’s journey began in March 2017, when she started her beauty training.

“When I qualified, I was mobile to start with, then in September 2017, I opened my first beauty salon in the village that I live in. In 2019, I moved my salon to my home because the available space at home was larger than in my salon. Between these times, I gained 39 Beauty Diplomas and my teaching certificate, which allowed me to start my own training academy.”

“Beautify Training Academy offers 38 different beauty courses, all fully insurable and accredited by ABT and The Beauty Guild. Beautify has 3 tutors – Myself, Beth and Lottie,” Dionne enthuses. “I love learning new things, and I love to stay up-to-date with training myself.

“In October 2021, I relocated my business to an even larger space, which has allowed me to build a team of beauty therapists and add hairdressing to the list of treatments.”

“When I first opened my salon, it was called Beautify By Dionne, but I have renamed my salon to become Beautify Salon and Training Academy, as I am no longer working just as Dionne but as a team,” she reveals. “The salon now has four beauty therapists, myself, Beth, Melanie and Melody who are self-employed therapists. and we also have Heidi who offers hairdressing and barbering.

“I love working as part of a team now. We are a salon that doesn’t stop. We are always looking to learn new things and try new and upcoming products and gadgets!”

“We all love our job and working at Beautify. Everyone is extremely passionate about what they do, and this helps us work effectively as a team.”

“We all have different interests, skills, and qualifications, so at Beautify, there is something for everyone with our wide range of treatments on offer,” she explains. “This includes but is not limited to gel polish, builder gel, manicure and pedicures, hairdressing, chemical peels, spray tans, waxing and brow lamination.

“We use a variety of brands depending on the treatment, but it is important to us that the products are of good quality. Our main brands are Eve Taylor, Footlogix , Lashbase, Beautiful Brows, INK London and Pure Nails Halo Gel Polish.”

“When decorating the salon, we decided on the décor as a team and we worked together to get the salon ready for opening. We wanted it to look fresh, but also warm and cosy, with it being a large area. Our main canvas is white, we then went with pinks and greens, which are on trend at the moment, with a touch of elegant gold in places.

“We feel the salon looks welcoming and cosy, but playful and fun at the same time – just like the Beautify staff!” Dionne laughs. “We are all women who are very down to earth and fun, and this makes the salon experience great for the client. We look to achieve professionalism, with a touch of sparkle and fun.”
