After her personal life change forever, Emma Singleton decided it was time for a change and time to chase her dream.

“I’ve been doing nails for 13 years alongside being a HR consultant,” explains Emma. “In September 2016, I had my first child and in December that year decided it was time to take a risk and open my own studio doing nails. It worked fantastically and in April 2018 I signed for my first ground floor shop and began renovating.”

After completing her teaching qualifications, Emma knew the salon could be more. “In April 2018 GirlHub was born. I run nail courses each month and have a strong client base of 180. My dream is take make GirlHub a brand,” smiles Emma.

“GirlHub consists of a strong team of 6, myself as director, educator and head nail tech. We also have a lash technician, a makeup artist, an extensively trained beautician and massage therapist, and two tea mmembers on work placements. We work closely with the local job centres to help and mentor people back into work.

“Our salon has certainly attracted attention with its industrial, retro look,” continues Emma. “All of our furniture was designed and custom built by my husband, as we have a joinery and building company. The salon is clean, simple and sleek. We wanted a neutral look in order to attract both male and female clients and we’ve certainly achieved that.”

Specialising in beautifully sculpted acrylic nails, the salon also offers a variety of treatments including waxing, HD Brows, all Decleor treatments, sports massage, LVL lashes, semi permanent lashes, spray tanning, makeup, sunbeds and so much more. “The brands we use include CJP, Glitterbels, Glam & Glitz, CND™, Decleor, HD, Jessica, OPI, Nouvou, St Tropez, Charlotte Tilbury, MAC, and NARS.

“I’m a fan of white and clinical which is why the salon is brilliant white, I wanted something a little different and something that stood of from my competitors. What better way to stand out than custom made? I feel sometimes salons can over complicate their looks and I was keen for a minimalist theme. The nail desks and reception area are made from reclaimed scaffolding planks and poles and are definitely a talking point amongst new clients.

“The decor has a real calming influence over the salon, we work in a clean and spacious setting allowing us to give the best treatments.”
