Lockdown encouraged long-time beauty lover, Charlotte Holden, to take the steps to finally pursue her dream job in the nail and beauty industry.

Noting her love for nails and making others feel good about themselves, tekking is the perfect fit for Charlotte, who began polishing and painting nails as a hobby in 2017. “I think that point in time helped a lot of people realise that life is short, and you really have to do something that makes your heart smile,” she remembers.

Eager to enrol onto as many training courses as possible, Charlotte completed a range of courses with Bio Sculpture, quickly realising she wanted to specialise in natural nail health.

“I was like a sponge and enrolled on every course they held,” she laughs. “I really wanted to offer only the best to my future clients.”

Upon achieving her qualifications, Charlotte enlisted the help of her partner to transform their spare bedroom into her salon. Despite the space being small, it was exactly what she needed at the time. “My first salon was a beautiful little sanctuary and my happy place, but I outgrew the space,” Charlotte explains.

It was in January 2023 that she moved her salon into a bigger, brighter room of her house, offering simple decor with airy white, soft grey and delicate pink, touches of greenery, and allowing room for a pedicure station complete with a chair and footstool.

Charlotte’s salon design was curated with a relaxing atmosphere in mind. “I wanted clients to feel relaxed and pampered in my salon. I didn’t want a salon that had music blaring or lots of people talking.

“Once I knew what I wanted to achieve, I worked that into my salon. All of my clients loved my first salon but they all comment how this space has a more luxurious, clutter free, calming environment.”

Charlotte offers a variety of treatments in the salon, including Express Manicures, Luxury Manicures, Gel Manicures for both fingers and toes, as well as her Nail Biter Recovery Journey.

“I realised early on that I wanted to focus on natural nail health and help people grow and be proud of their own nails,” she shares. “I offer a Nail Biter Recovery Journey which does just that. It is made up of block bookings and a personalised plan to help people who bite their nails on a journey to beautiful nails.”

“I am so happy and proud when people ask what I do for a living and I can say I’m a nail technician.”

Offering a one-to-one service at Imagine Nails & Beauty, Charlotte prioritises client relationships in the salon, making an effort to build rapport with each client. “I genuinely look forward to seeing each of my clients.

“My typical clients are late 30s plus, who might not necessarily feel comfortable walking into a busy high street salon.  They want to feel confident with how their nails look, and love a little bit of self-care. I’m so lucky that all of my clients are just beautiful souls, and I feel so honoured that they chose me to be their nail tech.”

Despite not getting into her dream career as early as she wished, Charlotte has worked hard to make up for lost time, already reaching several career achievements and milestones.

Accolades include placing 7th in the Northwest for Best Nail Salon in the Hair & Beauty Awards and achieving a spot in Wirral’s Top 10 Nail Technicians in the Wirral Globe Competition, thanks to client nominations.
