SALON IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Jodie Walley Nails, Staffordshire

They say home is where the heart is and the heart of the home is the kitchen. Especially for Jodie Walley, as her home salon is actually located in her kitchen! Having previous worked from a rented nail desk, Jodie has now had her home salon for two and half years. “Myself and my fiancé decided we wanted to get on the property ladder so we decided to buy a three-story house so that I could start to work from home,” Jodie reveals. “It works perfectly as our living room is upstairs. Once I finish work in the evening, I can tidy up and go upstairs out of the way and relax. I don’t feel like I’m constantly at work. My clients aren’t disturbed while having treatments either.
“I feel my salon is unique because it provides clients with home-from-home comfort. It’s a relaxed environment for solo treatments, but also for clients who wish to bring someone along with them. There space for them to sit, chat and relax.
With Jodie’s different set-up, she had to careful consider her décor. “I wanted my theme to be girly and sparkly so we decided to go for neutral white walls, floor and kitchen, alongside a bright pink wall,” Jodie states.
“I don’t think it’s common for people to have bright pink and sparkles in their kitchen and dining rooms, so people still walk into my home and feel like they are in a salon not just sat in somebody’s house. All my furniture and equipment is to salon and professional standard which clients can see, however I have taken appropriate measures to ensure all hazardous products and chemicals are stored properly.”
The move saw Jodie expand her treatment menu too. “I have a lot more space now,” Jodie explains. “I’m now able to offer spray tans and make up alongside my nail treatments.
“I do have plans to expand in the future and own a salon, so I can offer all treatments with a team of beauty therapists. I also recently qualified to teach in the industry so I would love to be able to share my knowledge and skills with new therapists with a training academy as part of my salon.”
