This Victorian-style Doncaster beauty salon is designed to feel like home

Salon owner, Khristie Lawton, shares how she crafted a home-away-from-home oasis just outside the hustle and bustle of Doncaster city centre.

Relaxing, welcoming, and safe are three words that inspired the design of Khristie Lawton’s Victorian-style salon. Defining her parents’ living room as the muse for the space, Khristie explains that Kiki Yorkshire fuses cosiness with luxury: “It’s down to earth, warm, and welcoming, with high-end treatments delivered in a space that feels like home.”

Khristie began her beauty training in 2017 and commits to doing courses every year, seeking a variety of educators to keep her skills sharp and services current. In October 2024, she found a space for her salon. Comfort was a top priority, and after a few months of hard work, Kiki Yorkshire was born: “a quiet nod to home, designed to help every client feel at ease the moment they walk in.”

Khristie spent long hours designing and crafting the space. “I spent evenings and weekends adding moulding, installing wall lights, and even designing a built-in unit to disguise the fuse box and make the space feel bigger,” she shares. “I tiled and edged the pedicure station myself, then brought it all together with desks, decorative touches, and a whole lot of love.”

“The design of my salon is deeply personal,” Khristie says. “I grew up in a Victorian home, and my Mum and Dad’s living room has always been my safe space – calm, warm, and full of comfort. I wanted to recreate that same feeling within our Victorian building.”

Kiki Yorkshire is based just outside Doncaster city centre, easily accessible and surrounded by life. Khristie comments that the area ‘brings in a down-to-earth, diverse crowd that we love’.

Noting that ‘delivering luxury to the working class’ is Kiki Yorkshire’s goal, Khristie says: “everything we offer has been hand-picked with one goal in mind: to give everyday people access to exceptional treatments.” This aim is reflected in the salon’s design choices, as neutral colours ease clients into relaxation mode, while hints of gold on furniture and artwork indicate the indulgence of the services offered.

Kiki Yorkshire exclusively specialises in natural nailcare, offering services such as Structured Gel Manicures, optional treatment add-ons, and the Signature Elim Pedicure: perfect for anyone who values long-term nail health and visible results. “We proudly use Bio Sculpture and The Nail Lab’s NU:gel system,” Khristie says. “Each system is used with intention, offering different properties to suit individual nail types and needs.”

Kiki Yorkshire is Khristie’s safe space. “It brings a peace I didn’t realise I needed,” she says. “Every corner holds a bit of my journey, and I’m proud of what it represents.”

Khristie’s hope for the future of Kiki Yorkshire is simple: ‘growth with purpose’. She adds, “I’d love to see the salon evolve into a bigger space that still keeps its heart.”
