Lucy's Glamourvan In Deal

Getting into the industry seeking flexible working hours around childcare in 2002, Lucy Fulbrook tackles new terrain with her mobile salon, the Glamourvan…

With a budget of £1000 to renovate a poor condition caravan she purchased for £150, Lucy and her builder husband set to work on converting it into her own mobile salon. Initially, the caravan had to be left to dry out, due to the dampness inside.

While the interior was drying, Lucy and her husband were contacted by Channel 4 TV show, George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, requesting to film the pair renovating the space. “From start to finish, it took eight weeks graft. We had cameras following our every move! We had a few elements to work with in the Glamourvan, the main one being that it had to all fold away into a trailer, which was tricky.”

Being well known in her local area for their children’s pamper parties, Lucy is often invited to local events but found it difficult to transport her equipment. With the Glamourvan, her problems were solved, with the salon being able to be used in any area, including fields, driveways, and town centres.

Offering a range of services such as manicures, pedicures, make-up, hair design, glitter festival faces, gem embellishments for face and body, braided extensions and coloured lashes, Lucy is supported by a team of five in-salon members and two party girls to help with the Glamourvan on the weekends.

Upcycling as much as possible when decorating the Glamourvan, everything was made by Lucy and her partner to create her pink theme to mirror that of her salon. “My salon has always been pink, which was influenced by  my daughter, who loved pink as a toddler. Pink and girly has always been our trademark style.

“The Glamourvan is a really unique build. It’s so quirky and very retro style! It’s extremely pink which makes it stand out a mile,” she says.

“We will be creating a really girly, Instagrammable vibe in the Glamourvan for clients to hire to chill and have treatments for birthdays. Make-up artists and hair designers can come alongside me to weddings to do treatments alongside my nail services.

“We can also attend hen dos and festivals, glittering and blinging up faces and bodies, ready to party,” Lucy smiles. “The van really will be a multi-use area to use in a wide range of places.”

“My favourite aspect of the van is the way it folds down into a trailer. It’s really cool how everything just pops away in all the hidden storage,” Lucy enthuses.

“We’re hoping to smash the festival and party scene next year, and with our feature on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces being aired early in 2024, it will help with our publicity on a local level.”
