Salon in the Spotlight: Nails by Jess Hales, Bures, Essex

In June 2021, Jessica Hales set up her beauty room within a salon in a village in Essex, giving up her full-time job as a beauty therapist to pursue her own business alone.
“A lot of people questioned my choice of starting my own business during the pandemic, but for me it’s been the best choice I’ve ever made in so many ways.”

“I’m extremely comfortable renting my room within the salon at the moment,” she smiles. “With it being in my home village and across the road from my house, it couldn’t be more ideal.
“The amazing hairdressers who also work within the salon and my clients who are extremely supportive, it’s the perfect place!”
“I offer manicures, pedicures, gel polish, eyelash extensions, eyelash lifting, brow lamination, henna brows, tinting, waxing, threading, ear candling and facials.
“I specialise in gel nails, offering a huge range of colours and hand painted nail art designs to my clients,” Jessica reveals. “The main brands I use are The GelBottle, Elim, Supercilium, Sienna X, Emia UK and Navy Professional.”
“Vegan and cruelty free products are super important to me and I love brands with a big social media presence.”
“My salon theme and decor makes the room a bit different from your average beauty room, with all its quirks and animal features.
“When decorating my beauty room, I wanted a feature wall, so I opted for a deep bottle green,” she explains. “From there, I chose mostly jungle themed items to give my beauty room some personality.”
“The feature wall is framed with a eucalyptus garland, which is home to some super cute clip on birds, this wall is finished off with my neon relax sign. I have a few animal features throughout and hanging plants too.
“The decor definitely creates a great atmosphere, especially with the lights off with the glow of the neon sign – it’s so relaxing!” Jessica beams. “A lot of clients comment on my decor choices and absolutely love what I’ve done with the room. A good treatment starts with the right environment.”
