Salon in the Spotlight: Simply Perfection Beauty, Canterbury, Kent

Shelley Read didn’t initially pursue a career in nails, despite wanting to enter the beauty industry when she left school.

“I finally trained up in 2019, and I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner,” Shelley beams.

“My salon is located at the back of my house, built by my husband,” she notes. “He recently extended the space following my qualification in semi-permanent makeup.

“My salon has its own entrance via the back gate, which helps it feel separate from the rest of the house.”

“I offer gel manicures, gel pedicures, hard gel overlays and extensions, acrylic overlays and extensions, lash lift and lint, lash extensions, brow tinting, waxing and semi-permanent makeup.

“Nails are my most popular treatment in the salon, and I love it.” Shelley shares. “I use a few different brands for various purposes. For gel polish, I use Halo Gel Polish, and for acrylics I use Glitterbels Acrylic Powder. For lashes, I use Lashbase, and for lash lift and tint I use Lashbomb.”

“I offer one-to-one treatments from Monday to Saturday, and evenings on request.

“My typical client is someone who hasn’t decided on a nail design until they come into the salon,” she reveals. “I love helping clients choose a design and colour match.”

“My salon is a quiet and relaxing environment,” Shelley says. “The décor is pretty whilst also being clean, as my salon is sterile for my semi-permanent makeup. 

“Clients often tell me they love my wallpaper and often use it to take pictures of their nails against. I love everything about my salon!”
