Step inside Sugaring London – a sunny studio that specialises in waxing treatments, that has been working with Treatwell and Public Health England to champion the Life Saving Wax campaign…
“I came up with the concept of Sugaring London soon after the birth of my second son, Forrest,” smiles Tanja Westendorff, founder.
“I have a degree and background in business and previously worked in film and tv. I always had a passion for beauty and everything natural and vegan. I decided to retrain the art of sugaring and followed courses in the UK and LA. I travelled the world and came up with a technique that we feel is as pain-free as hair-removal can be. Moreover, we stock unique products that help to optimise the condition of your skin in between treatments.
“I started from a spare room in my house soon after which I moved to a spare room in Bootcamp Pilates in Porchester road, W2. It was a great time there as I was sharing with another start up, Core Kensington, now on High street Kensington. We all worked extremely hard on our individual business plans and in my opinion came up with unique concepts to London.
“From the moment I came up with the idea of Sugaring London, I always dreamt big. Our first studio in Notting Hill launched in July 2018 and we are now opening two further studios in Kings Cross and Shoreditch.
“We take pride in a five star service as all times. It doesn’t matter if you come in at 10.15am for your Hollywood or have your Brazilian done at 19.15pm; your treatment is always done by sugaring experts. Our studio is always super clean, inviting and buzzing. Clients say that it is a real experience to come in to our studio.
We offer one service and that is sugaring hair-removal. You can sugar from your brows to your toes and everything in between. We use our own sugaring paste – it’s 100% natural and vegan and we stock a range of homeware products for on between sugaring treatments.
“Our concept is inspired by LA. With Sugaring London we are bringing a bit of LA to London. Our fabulously blush (not pink!) cacti wall is a real Insta favourite. My best friend Luisa Polidori (@PolidoriBarbera) has a real eye for design and colours and helped me to choose the colours in the studio. From sugaring expert to client everyone feels happy when they come into our studio.
“I got approached by Treatwell to trial the campaign first in our studio and also participate in a campaign video with them and Public Health England for 400 partner salons. So far, the response has been amazing.
“Us sugaring experts talk about all sorts in the treatment room. Even though we are no medical experts, we can start the conversation about a subject women don’t talk enough about; the importance of medical screening. We have QA cards in our reception area, the treatment rooms and even in the toilet area. When people come in to the sugaring room they have seen the cards and often start to talk about it. It’s incredible how people open up about the subject of medical screening.
“As most of the team are over 25 years old, they have had screenings in the past and talk about their own experience with the clients. They know when the time is right to talk about it or when it is best to skip the conversation.
It’s such an honour to participate in the Life Saving Wax campaign. It is still early days but it’s incredible to start the conversation as it can really save lives!”
