Charming with its earthy tones and rustic feel, York-based salon, The Bothy, is a relaxing escape for clientele. “We took our name from the stone shelters built on mountain sides for protection from the storm; we want The Bothy to be our client’s refuge from the storm,” reveals founders, Amanda Monaghan and Amelia Redhead.

Combining Amelia’s work as a beauty therapist and Amanda’s business savvy, the pair opened the doors in August 2017. “We share a passion for beauty, skin health and wellness,” the pair reveal. “We decided to combine our knowledge and passion to open The Bothy together.”

The salon’s is focus on promoting wellbeing both outside and inside. “Each treatment is tailor-made to our clients’ needs, to make them look and feel your best at any age,” Amelia and Amanda explain. “We have organised our treatments into four categories; Maintain, De-Stress and Calm, Enhance and Skin Health and Rejuvenation so our clients can easily pick the treatment that suits their desired result.

“We also believe that the key to looking and feeling beautiful is more than skin deep, so we also have a ‘Bothy Tribe’. The Bothy Tribe are experts, in a range of disciplines, from exercise, lifestyle coaching and nutrition who we recommend to our clients.

“Finally, we host workshops and classes within the salon. In particular, our Candlelit Yoga sessions have been incredibly popular!”

To reflect this ethos, the salon sees a warming interior. “We wanted The Bothy to be an escape from everyday life, so have worked hard to get the décor and lighting levels just right,” states Amelia and Amanda. “Clients tell us they walk in the salon and immediately feel their shoulders relax.

“We’ve used creams and dark greens to give a relaxing feeling and tried to avoid too many bright colours. We’ve also cherry-picked more rustic farmhouse pieces to furnish the salon, including lime washed wooden nail bars, leather chairs for pedicures and wooden shelving for our retail area.

“We’ve incorporated sofa’s and comfy chairs for our clients to relax on before and after treatments. We don’t have a reception, so we take appointments and payments at the sofa, sat next to our clients. This is such a popular feature with our clients and puts them at ease from the minute they walk in.”
