Talented tech, Lian Hargreaves, talks client loyalty, career challenges and more…

What do you love about working on peoples’ nails?
I love being able to create different designs on a day-to-day basis. My favourite part is always applying top coat and seeing an entire design come together.

What are the benefits of working from home?
The benefits are fantastic; I am a mum of three and working from home really fits in with my busy lifestyle. It also means that I can save on the overheads that come with running a salon or renting a space.

How did you go about building your client base?
I was always updating my profiles on Facebook and Instagram and putting offers out for new clients. Keeping up to date with new nail trends also helped.

What steps do you take to ensure that clients remain loyal to you?
I strongly believe that if you provide a good professional service then clients won’t go anywhere. I also try my best to make clients feel comfortable and to just be myself with them.

How long has it taken you to master your current skillset?
I think there is always room for more education and I still have lots to learn. It’s taken me around three years to produce good quality nails and to feel very confident in my ability. However I don’t always get it right and I still make mistakes.

What are your go-to nail brands for enhancement products and nail art supplies?
My favourite brand for enhancement products has to be NSI and in particular its Rose Blush acrylic powder. I also love Glam and Glits powders for colour and design purposes.

What do you find most challenging about your job role?
The biggest challenge is probably the fact that every day brings different design requests. I have some very outgoing clients that love challenging designs and I find one stroke particularly tricky to master.

What are your future career ambitions?
As my children grow older I would love to further my career and have my own salon with a team of nail techs and beauty therapists. But for the time being it’ll just be me on my own.
