Scratch chats with Lucy Booth of Lucy London about the progression of her love for nails and the advice that changed her career.

I’ve always loved nails! Even when I was younger, I’d have walls full of hundreds of nail polishes. As I got older, I completely fell in love with the creative freedom you have with nails. You can really tailor nail art to your own or to clients’ personality and I absolutely love that.

I like to create quite intricate designs, like Old English lettering and abstract faces. It’s definitely a challenge and tests my patience from time to time, but my clients and I are always so happy with the results!

I have to admit my nails are sometimes neglected, but when I do have chance to do them, I keep them fairly short and square. I like to use The Gel Bottle‘s Builder in a Bottle as a base. I like trying out new designs on myself before clients come in, so I tend to have quite detailed nail art which, in turn, my clients tend to copy or ask for similar after seeing them!

Instagram is a big source of inspiration for me. There’s so many talented techs out there, it’s amazing to take inspiration from their work and make it your own! There’s such a great nail community on Instagram, it’s allowed me to made some close nail tech friends that I’ve never even met.

The most important piece of advice I’ve taken on board was from a post by Nic on Instagram. She explained how you should never compare yourself to others and how successful they are, everyone is on their own journey.

As soon as I stopped comparing myself to others, it really unleashed my creative, more confident side, and in turn, I started doing so much better!

The nail industry is one that is constantly changing, it’s so important to advance your skills and artistry so that you can offer the absolute best to your clients! Products and techniques are evolving daily, why wouldn’t you want to grow with the times?
