Discover the Wales nail salon inside the Brecon Beacons National Park

Owner of Nails by Sam, Sam Devereux, opens the doors to her nail salon, located in the heart of the Brecon Beacons.
“My salon is based in my back garden, which is away from roads and completely private. We’re very lucky to live in the middle of the Brecon Beacons and have some beautiful views,” shares Sam.
However, the location comes with certain limitations: “Because we are located in the Brecon Beacons National Park, I am restricted when it comes to the external colours of the cabin,” says Sam. “That said, I’m loving the natural wooden look, and think I will keep it this way.”
After qualifying in March 2016 with Sun-Kissed Training Academy in Newport, Wales, Sam began working on a mobile basis – a setup that, paired with her remote location and Covid restrictions, proved challenging. She explains: “I live in a very rural location, so covered a large area and spent a lot of time on the road visiting clients’ homes. Then the pandemic hit, and even when salons could reopen in Wales, mobile techs still weren’t permitted to visit clients’ houses. That’s when my partner came up with the idea of getting a small summer house for the garden.”
Soon after, Sam upsized and purchased a new summer house – which is now home to Nails by Sam. “My salon is one room, and is huge compared to my previous space,” she reveals.
Seeking to create a ‘light and airy’ feeling, Sam chose a white and light oak colour scheme. “It looks fresh, clean and bright – and I absolutely love it. Since my logo includes dusky pink, I’ve added some very subtle touches of pink throughout the salon too.”
Sam specialises in natural nailcare and nail art, having removed L&P acrylic services from her menu due to a lack of popularity. She says: “I absolutely love seeing a client grow long, strong and, most importantly, healthy nails! I get so excited watching their progress.” Sam uses Magpie Beauty products, along with Katie Barnes Tool Range and Lucy Pastorelli tools for her E-file and prep work.
Looking ahead, Sam seeks to continue honing her skills, commenting: “I’ll keep educating myself – nails is such a fast-growing industry, and it’s so important to stay on top of training and learn new skills.”
