Autumn/Winter, Step by Step, Themed

Texas-based nail artist, educator & international competition judge, Halyna Kaliugina, shares how to achieve an autumnal cat eye polka dot nail design…

Halyna is a multi award-winning Nailympia competitor, recognised for her precision work, creative nail art and competition designs. She is the founder of Texas-based nail studio, LiNails, and combines advanced nail techniques with her passion for education and artistry.

The popularity of polka dot nails shows no signs of slowing down during autumn/winter 2026. “This nail design offers a modern take on the timeless polka dot, combining a soft magnetic cat eye effect with crisp white details,” Halyna says. “The shifting shimmer adds depth and movement, while the simple dot pattern keeps the design playful, clean and wearable. Created in warm, autumn-inspired shades, this look is an easy way to give a classic print a seasonal update.”

You will need:

  • Cat eye gel polish in a colour of your choice.
  • Magnet.
  • White gel polish.
  • Dotting tool.
  • Glossy gel polish top coat.

Step 1
Prep the nail and apply one coat of your chosen cat eye gel polish. Cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 2
Add a second layer of the cat eye gel polish. Before curing, use a magnet to manipulate the particles to create a soft, diffused effect. Cure once happy with the result.
Step 3
Using white gel polish and a dotting tool, place small polka dots across the nail. Keep the spacing slightly irregular for a playful finish. Cure.
Step 4
Apply a glossy gel polish top coat to seal the design, and cure to finish.
