Nail tutorial: How to infill Gelish Brush-On Builder gel

Step by Step

Gelish master educator, Amy Martin, shares a step-by-step guide to carrying out an infill service using the brand’s Brush-On Builder: a soak-off builder gel in a bottle formula.

Step 1

Carefully examine each nail. Identify that a builder gel infill is the ideal treatment when there’s approximately 3mm or more of natural nail growth.

Step 2

⁠Using the Gelish Go File IQ E-file with an appropriate bit, such as a medium-grit carbide or safety bit, gently remove the bulk of the existing product, focusing on areas where the original arch placement has moved due to growth. File evenly so the remaining product is flush with the natural nail, without creating heat or pressure. You may finish the final blending with a 180-grit file if preferred. Push the proximal nail fold and clean the surrounding nail plate of any excess cuticle using the Gelish Eco Duo Pusher. Gently remove the shine from the nail, using a 100-grit buffer. Wipe the nail with Gelish Nail Surface Cleanse and a Wipe It Off Lint-free Nail Wipe to cleanse it and remove all dust.

Step 3

⁠Prep the nail for optimal adhesion using Gelish pH Bond to dehydrate the natural nail, and Foundation Gel for the base. Cure for 5 seconds in the Gelish 18G Unplugged Lamp.

Step 4

Apply a thin layer of Gelish Brush-On Builder Gel, and do not cure. Apply a second small bead near the cuticle, and use your brush to take the product from one side to the other, moving towards the tip until you reach the centre of the nail.

Step 5

Using a thin striper brush, ensure a smooth application by gently bringing the product from the centre of the nail to blend with the sides and free edge. Don't move too much product away from the cuticle and stresspoint area. Cure for 30 seconds in the Gelish 18G Unplugged Lamp.

Step 6

Once cured, wipe the sticky inhibition layer. Shape and refine the surface using a 180-grit file or buffer to smooth any uneven areas or bulk. If after refining, the structure appears too thin or uneven, repeat with a further application of Brush-On Builder and buff.

Step 7

Apply your chosen Gelish Soak Off Gel Polish colour/s in thin, even layers, curing after each coat for 30 seconds, then apply your preferred Gelish top coat. ⁠Cure. Apply Nourish Cuticle Oil and massage in.
