Spring rainbow & smiley nails

Don’t let April showers get you down! Magpie Beauty educator, Nicolette Manesh, shares how to create this uplifting gel polish manicure for spring.
Step 1
Apply a base coat or builder gel and cure.
Step 2
Apply two coats of your chosen base colours to nails, curing between each layer.
Step 3
Paint white circles where you would like the smiley faces to be and cure.
Step 4
Apply a yellow shade on top of the white circles. The white base aids the intensity of the yellow shade. Start painting lines in different colours of the rainbow on the other two nails, curing in between each applied shade.
Step 5
Keep adding lines of colour to create the rainbows, until there are five to six lines. Flash cure for 10 seconds in between each line so the colours don’t run into each other.
Step 6
Using a dotting tool and black gel paint, paint two small dots onto the yellow circles to create the eyes of the smiley faces. Use a detailer brush to paint the smiles and cure.
Step 7
Using the dotting tool and white gel paint, place small dots around the smiley faces and cure.
Step 8
With the dotting tool and white gel paint, place dots in the shape of an oval on either side of the rainbows, and fill in to make clouds. Dot white gel paint around the rainbow and clouds, then cure to finish.
