Noteworthy November dates

Prepare your business for the month of November with our roundup of dates to note…

All month: Movember – Men’s Health Awareness Month

A global movement that raises awareness and funds for men’s health issues, Movember is a portmanteau of ‘moustache’ and ‘November’ and involves men growing moustaches for the month.

Aside from nurturing new facial hair, money can be raised in a plethora of ways. Why not encourage clients to have a moustache mani and donate a portion of the profits to Movember?

11th: Remembrance Day

11th November commemorates the end of the First World War and honours those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The day of recognition is marked by a two-minute silence at 11am. Red poppies are known as the symbol for remembrance, evocative of the flowers that bloomed on the battlefields of World War I.

Our roundup of nails to mark Remembrance Day can be found here.

While November is Mouth Cancer Action Month, 12th November is Blue Wednesday: a dedicated moment of awareness which encourages people to ‘pause, reflect and act’. The day is a reminder that looking after your health is paramount, and a 45-second mouth check could save lives.

25th: White Ribbon Day

An annual day of observance to raise awareness and call for the elimination of gender-based violence, White Ribbon Day is organised by White Ribbon UK – a charity dedicated to ‘engaging men and boys to prevent violence against women and girls’.

The event is a chance for individuals to ‘pledge never to use, excuse or remain silent about violence against women’. Awareness activities that nail and beauty businesses can get involved in include donning white ribbons, hosting educational events and fundraising.
