Ivana Prokic has scooped first place in Scratch’s annual photographic competition – for the second time.

After 73 entries were received for The Great Scratch Shoot Out 2020, the top three and winner of the Voter’s Choice accolade were revealed via a livestream on social media.

The top three sees:

  • 1st – Ivana Prokic
  • 2nd – Eloise Nom Chong
  • 3rd – Alexandra Teleki
  • Voter’s Choice – Sarah Kay Abbott

“The creativity of this year’s line-up is astounding,” states competition organiser & Scratch’s deputy editor, Kat Hill. “Many took the opportunity to escape reality, step out of their comfort zone and take part in the competition.”

The highly commended entries include:

  • Nick Tran
  • Grace Suggett
  • Debbie Marangos
  • Rachel Mellor

This year saw a theme: ‘You’. This asked those taking part to submit entries that incorporated the nail pro or their personality in some way. Solo photo shoots, entries shot on mobile phones, images featuring practice hands and self-portraits featuring nail work were all welcomed, as well as entries shot with a collaborative team.

“The theme invited the nail professional to showcase via their entry what makes them unique,” continues Kat. “The judging panel thoroughly enjoyed reading the story behind each entry.

“Ivana’s entry hails from Belgium – and shares a message more important than ever: to be kind.

“Ivana’s entry was inspired by her experience of being the child of immigrant parents and not fitting in. On moving to Belgium, Ivana found her place and accompanied her winning entry with the statement: ‘People being kind can make such a big difference in life.’

“Eloise Nom Chong modelled for her entry and chose to represent her ability to rise above and conquer life’s trials. Alexandra Teleki also modelled for her image and incorporated all the things she loves, wears and what makes her the person she is today.

“The Voter’s Choice accolade was awarded after Sarah Kay Abbott secured the most votes through her tireless campaigning across her social media accounts.

“I urge you to also take a look through all the entries: they showcase our incredible, resilient industry, and serve as a way to mark a momentous year.

“Thank you to everyone that entered the competition – it will be a year to remember in history of The Great Scratch Shoot Out!”

The judging panel examined the entries, looking at entrant’s interpretation of the theme, as well as criteria including originality and execution of concept, instant impact, clarity of the photograph and nails, use of colour and lighting, nail finish and design, model choice and styling.

The top entries each received a cash prize and certificate, with the winner scooping a trophy, supersized print of their image and feature in Scratch.
