Kaitlin Collinson began her nail career at just 16. Ten years and one vivid idea later, she is the founder & CEO of a growing nail brand. She shares the story behind the company with Scratch…

“I have over 10 years’ experience in the nail industry,” says Kaitlin, owner of Durham-based salon, Muse Beauty & CEO of Nail Medicine. “Nails have always been my forte, and after years of expanding my skillset and knowledge through teacher training, I knew I wanted to create my own products.”

Nail Medicine – a wellness-focused nail brand currently offering cuticle oils and professional nail files, was conceptualised in a slightly unconventional way. “Nail Medicine actually came to me in a dream during the Covid lockdown,” Kaitlin reveals. “I have ADHD, so having business ideas in my head isn’t unusual, but this was different.”

Kaitlin shares that her visualisation for the brand was so vivid she could already picture the packaging in detail. “The concept is a cuticle oil pen that looks like a syringe, hence why the brand is called Nail Medicine.”

Customer’s senses were considered in the development process, with the cuticle oils boasting scents ranging from caramel-vanilla Bum Bum Booster and candy-inspired Frostbite to juicy Pomegranate Infusion and comforting Warm Gingerbread.

It was important to Kaitlin that the cuticle oils are non-greasy, and their formula has a strong focus on ‘prevention, repair and long-term nail wellness’. “After a year of samples from suppliers, I found the perfect one,” she shares.

Once the formula was finalised, early feedback confirmed demand. “My clients have been repeat customers since first trying the product, so I decided to build a website to share it with others,” Kaitlin says.

In May 2026, the Nail Medicine website went live, opening up the brand to both nail technicians and consumers. The product range includes a cuticle oil pen designed for everyday use, alongside a larger dropper bottle for nail professionals working in salon environments.

Expansion is already underway for the brand. “This is only just the start of the products – we have a lot of ideas coming up,” Kaitlin states, revealing that the next launch will be a moisturising hand sanitiser designed to hydrate skin.

Nail Medicine is currently available in selected salons, as well as via www.nailmedicine.com. The brand also offers wholesale opportunities for nail professionals, allowing salons to retail the products and earn commission.
