Scratch chats to Charlie Bishop of By Charlie B about her favourite nail designs and future goals…

What is it about nails that has you hooked?

I love how trends change all the time and how supportive people in the industry can be, even when you haven’t met. I adore being able to now teach my passion to others with fully accredited online and face to face courses.

Who do you admire in the industry?

There are a few artists that hugely stand out to me. Annabel Maginnis, for the quality of her amazing brand and the attention to detail that goes into her work. Charli Jepson, for her work ethic and never failing to support everyone. There are so many techs that I admire within this industry… I wish I could list them all!

What designs do you love to create?

I love all aspects of nails. I don’t think that there is anything that I wouldn’t give a go. I love abstract work and ombre, both gel and acrylic. I’m also a massive fan of designer brand-inspired nails – I will always love creating them! I’m such a lover of pastel nails too, although on myself I’m definitely more of a nude girl.

Where do you source inspiration for your nail work?

I tend to get my inspiration from other artists on Instagram and patterns from Pinterest. Sometimes I’ll be shopping and see a pattern or colour palette and an idea will just spring into my mind.

What are your next career steps?

I have huge dreams for my career. In the near future I will be opening my own salon and training centre where I can teach my face to face and online courses for Glitterbels. I want to create a safe haven where people can come in and be themselves, and not worry about anything in the outside world for a couple of hours.

Do you have any funny or eventful career stories?

I remember once, I had done a full set of glitter ombre. I had just finished capping the nails, and they had turned slightly matte – as they do before topcoat. The client went into a mad panic, thinking I didn’t know what I was doing!

If you weren’t doing nails, what would you be doing?

I honestly couldn’t imagine my life without doing nails, it’s been my passion since I was such a young age. I actually moved away from home at 16 to gain my CIBTAC and CIDESCO beauty qualification which suddenly brought my passion for nails. Although, when I was younger I always said I wanted to be a teacher, but I guess I’ve reached that as well as finding a life long passion within this industry.
