Scratch chats to Charlotte Clements of Nails and Beauty by Charlotte about her future goals and how she created this striking aurora nail design.
I have worked in the beauty industry since 2006. During my time in the industry, I have worked as a beauty therapist on a cruise ship, before going on to work with Katie Barnes – this is where I found my love for nails! Katie trained me using Young Nails which was fantastic, and I made the leap to start up my own business in 2016, and haven’t looked back since.
I would say my nail style is trendy and fashion forward. I love to create a layered design. I have so many favourite products but I’d have to say I love Stick It! and Foils from Nail Stamping Queen. It can just finish off any design. I also love my Gel Paints and the stunning Flakes from Magpie Beauty.
How to
For this design I used a cover pink – for this design, I chose Magpie Gel Colour in the shade Come What May, then buffed a chrome dust into a tack free top coat. I used is Magpie Chrome Dust in Pandora. Then, I applied my foil gel, cured it, and covered the whole nail roughly with an iridescent foil. I used Magpie Foil in Gabrial. I topped that again with a tack free top coat to stop the next foil from transferring over all the nail. I used Nail Stamping Queen’s Stick It! to add the detail around the edge. Finally, I used a gold and silver foil and tapped it on top of the cured Stick It!, so they mix together to give it the two tone effect. Apply top coat to finish the look.
What I love about working in the nail industry is that it has such an amazing community. Over the last year especially, I have found that everyone is so supportive and willing to share their knowledge, and through this, I have made friends with a group of girls from all over the country. I especially love that the industry is always changing and bringing out new products and ideas.
I’d say the highlight of my career is becoming my own boss launching Nails and Beauty by Charlotte. It has given me the freedom to grow and use brands I love and trust.
My hopes for the future would be to become a brand ambassador for my dream brand, and maybe get my teaching qualification! I always want to learn and better myself.
