Scratch chats to Jen Phillips of Nails by Jennifer Marie about her love for nails and how she created this funky French design…

I am a fully qualified nail technician offering acrylic, builder gel and gel polish enhancements. I qualified in January 2020 in L&P acrylic and gel polish and I went on to complete a builder gel course later in the year.

I think my signature style is anything bright… I adore colour and for me it’s the brighter, the better! My favourite products to use are the Brillbird Brush & Go colours. They’re so colourful, and highly pigmented.

How-to:

I created these nails by firstly painting my French tip with the first pink colour. Next, I applied each colour, following the smile line as a guide. I painted the hot pink, the darker purple and white up the side, and joined it up with the curves. I also added a white and purple line down the opposite side of the nail. Each colour was flash cured for 10 seconds before continuing. A full 60 second cure was completed at the end of the design.

I love everything about nails. I love when a client comes to me with severely bitten nails and we start them on a growth journey using builder gel. Watching the journey along with the client is really satisfying, and I love how happy the client is when the nails are at a strong and healthy length.

My career highlight so far has to be coming 3rd in a nail art competition with The Nail Tech Org and becoming part of an amazing team at a gorgeous salon.

Once I’ve built up a full client base, I’d love to open my own salon and academy to pass on my passion for nails.
