Scratch chats to Charlotte Vizor of Nailed it by Chaz about her love for being a nail tech, as she describes how to create this gorgeous green and gold design.

Please detail your background in nails…

“My nail career blossomed from a hobby. When I first started falling in love with nails, I was working solely on my own natural nails with just polish. My passion is what drove me to begin training to do nails at a professional standard and I gained my first ever qualification in hard gel extensions, which I absolutely loved. I couldn’t get enough and had to learn more!

“When I moved on to achieve my Level 3 qualification in Nail Technology in 2015, my love for sculpting and acrylic design is what completely took over my world. While I was training, I took part in a regional and national nail art competition, and won first place in both of these. This achievement gave me the confidence to move forward in the industry, and sparked my love of art deco and painting straight lines – something which has never left me, and is still one of my favourite things to do.

“Since then, I’ve gained quite a few more various qualifications, taken part in many workshops, exhibited at Beauty UK, and I am now currently working through my teaching degree. I work as a mobile nail tech full time, and I love the freedom that it gives me – I love that I have the ability to work around my family, and I adore the amazing clients that being a tech brings my way.”

What is your signature nail style & favourite products to use?

“I find it very difficult to pinpoint a certain style. My clients have often described my style as ‘eclectic’, and I love to take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere that I see it. With such a diverse client base, I get to enjoy all aspects of nail art, from classic pink & whites to bright and bold colours, colour blocking and marbling, extreme lengths, and encapsulating absolutely anything that I think will look nice in a nail.

“I absolutely love stiletto nails and loads of sparkle. Glitterbels is my all time favourite acrylic system – the sheer range of coloured acrylics and premixed glitters is astonishing. My gel polish range is from CJP, as the products are a absolute dream to work with, and their gel paints are the best I’ve ever used.”

How did you create these nails?

“I created these nails using the full Glitterbels Acrylic System with the coloured acrylics in the shades Carbon Black and Khaki Olive, premixed glitter Royalty, and some metal watch and cog pieces I had stumbled across, and desperately wanted to use.

“I applied my clear base over Glitterbels Extreme Length Tips first, then created my design with Khaki Olive, Royalty and Carbon Black, leaving large clear spaces where I wanted to place my cog pieces. I then used small beads of clear acrylic to apply my metal pieces, and encapsulated the design in Glass Slippers once I was happy. These nails were topped off with the super shiny Glitterbels No Wipe Top Coat.”

What do you love about working in the nail industry?

“I love almost everything that working in the nail industry brings. Being a part of my clients’ lives, as well as their special moments, is a really wonderful feeling. I love to help my clients feel better about themselves, and the look on their faces when they see their finished nails is always so rewarding. I love the freedom of creativity that being a nail tech brings me. Having a place to express myself through my work and having clients who appreciate and enjoy what I do is more than I would ever have expected.”

What is the highlight of your career so far?

“I feel like my whole career so far has been one continuous highlight, from starting with a hobby, to gaining qualifications and then being able to run a successful business doing what I love, is fantastic. I always strive to do more exciting things and I can’t wait to experience the highlights that are still to come in my career.”

What are your hopes for your future in nails?

“I hope that I can continue to do what I love for the rest of my life. Nails bring me so much happiness, I couldn’t ever imagine doing something different. I also can’t wait to get my cap and gown at the end of my teaching degree, and become a fully fledged teacher, ready to share my love of nails with a new generation of nail techs, and help them kick start their career into this wonderful industry.”
