Dream Nails Press On Nails

The first UK lockdown saw nail professionals turn to a variety of means to generate cash flow, including creating press-on nails for clients & sending by post. Thanh Vu, managing director of four Dream Nails salons, reveals points to consider if you’re thinking of turning to press-ons during lockdown…

Press on nails are back; and I predict longer, more colourful and creative designs.

Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Ariana Grande and Chrissy Teigen have been sporting press-on nails throughout the pandemic, so it’s time to consider adding them to your offering – particularly while you’re not able to see clients as normal.

What are press-ons?

Press on nails, also known as glue on nails, were super popular in the late 90’s/early 00’s. They are artificial, acrylic nails that are already made up; the client simply has to glue them onto the top of their natural nail.

They do not require a long commitment – like acrylic nails – and celebrities in the last few years have really been promoting them while on set/photo shoots. Chrissy Teigen has been at the forefront of promoting them on Instagram, revealing that ‘press ons have changed her life!’

How have press-on nails changed over the years?

For those that shopped on the high street over a decade ago for beauty products, you may recall packs of press-on ails with the classic French polish already painted or a bright, beautiful red. However, the micro-industry has rapidly developed and now press-ons have become really advanced and a ‘hot new trend’.

  • Length and shape – Not only are there cute short and classic round/square nails available, but there are long coffin/pointy designs on the market.
  • No more quick fix – In the past, press-ons used to be associated with a quick fix prior to an interview. Today, most press-on consumers tend to want them for that fun weekend they have planned. Think a fancy dress event or birthday with long black pointy nails to really finish the look. Press-ons provide the added advantage of being able to remove in time for the office on Monday.

What are the benefits?

  • Press-ons are super affordable! Many retail from £10 for simpler nails with prices increasing the more intricate the design.
  • Time – it takes less than 10 minutes to apply, from start to finish.
  • They are very easy to remove leaving no damage to the nails.
  • They come in an assortment of shape, length, colour and designs. At Dream Nails, we are open to commission any nail design set for press-ons.

How long do they last?

Unfortunately, they are not as resilient as acrylic enhancements. However, if looked after well they can last up to two weeks.

How to self apply:

  1. Lay out the nails and starting with the little finger, measure each nail to make sure each press-on fits correctly (it helps to lay them out on a flat surface);
  2. Make sure the hands are clean and prepped (no oils, cream or old varnish)
  3. Using the glue that comes with the kit, put a circle of glue onto the middle of the nail and press on the artificial nail from top to bottom. Apply enough glue so it spreads evenly but making sure it doesn’t spill out.
  4. Repeat step 3 until all nails are applied.
  5. Allow up to 5mins for the glue to dry, once completely dried you can wash your hands from any residue. Now you are ready for the red carpet!

Remember – no nail art design is too intricate for the Dream Team. We are now commissioning all designs and each set is individually hand painted by your chosen nail technician and signed for proof. A set comes complete with glue, stick on tabs and presentation box.

Go on… give them a try!
