Salon in the Spotlight: BW Beauty, Lincoln

Laura Boucher-Walker trained in gel polish manicure in 2018, soon setting up her home salon.

“After being open for a little while, I began having to turn clients away who wanted nail enhancements, so I decided to train in acrylic and acrygel to which my clients loved. My client base grew and so did their treatment requests.”

“I decided to train with HD Brows and offer Brows and Browsculpt, but my love for learning pushed me to also train with Nouveau for LVL, LVL advance, Nouveau global and classic lash extensions.

“These treatments were a great addition to my already extensive treatment menu,” Laura reveals. “However, I still hand clients that would visit me for nails, brows and lashes, to then have to book in else where for facials and pedicures.”

“I decided to begin training with Elim to offer Mediheel pedicures, Eve Taylor for skincare and Dermaplane for facials.

“More recently, I’ve added sugar wax hair removal to my treatment menu,” she beams. “I’m literally a one stop shop for my clients beauty needs now!”

“I pride my salon on being a tranquil and relaxing hideaway which enables clients to be my sole focus for the duration of their appointment, and beyond, as I often message between appointments to ensure they’re doing okay.

“Working from my home based salon, I strive to ensure it’s on par with top city salons, but without the hassles of searching and paying for parking,” Laura shares. “It’s helpful for anxious clients knowing it’s only me that’s here and it allows me to ensure to my clients receive consistency with their self care.”

“As I offer head-to-toe care, I often get asked which treatment is my favourite,” she says. “My answer, very simply, is whichever treatment which will make the biggest difference to the individual client.

“If I’ve got a client who is on their feet for endless hours, an Elim pedicure will be just the treatment to peel that client up, where as a client who suffers with breakouts would benefit from a bespoke facial.”

“Making my clients happy is at the forefront of my mind for every appointment, whether it’s a first client or a client that’s visited 50 times previously. Consistency is key to keeping a wonderful client base.”

“The theme I have in the salon is pink and grey, which are two of my favourite colours,” Laura explains. “I ensure it’s nice and organised, incredibly clean and I use calming acoustic music and chosen aromatherapy oils to set the tone of the appointment.

“I try and go for a relaxed atmosphere where the client can open up and unwind with any troubles they may have in the life outside of their appointment.”

“I’m a fantastic listener,” she smiles. “Often by listening to a client and making little suggestions, they leave being able to tackle an issue that’s been troubling them.

“Being a plus sized therapist, I feel I’m approachable to those who may feel the typical salon owner isn’t in alignment with their own looks and feelings. Here, I’m curvy and embrace it!”

“A focal point in my salon is my lemur wall. It’s a tropical print scattered with lemurs,” Laura laughs. “This shows the fun side to me and is often a great inspiration for a set of nails.

“I’m a lover of plants, so I currently have six large plants in the salon and a vase of bright coloured blooms. Along with the botanical aspects of the salon, I’ve chosen pinks and greys throughout the salon. This is also the uniform colours I’ve chosen.”
