After honing her nail skills and building a loyal client base, Karen Heron is celebrating the recent opening of her new salon. Commemorating in style, the opening saw a party for clients and those closest to Karen, as well as the chance for the nail tech to showcase her salon’s new style.

“The salon opened in August, with an official opening at the beginning of September,” Karen reveals. “Previously, I had gained salon experience in working from a hairdressers, and built up a firm client base. With my youngest child starting school, the time was right to find larger premises of my own. Luckily, a great opportunity came along with the ideal premises for me.

“The opening party was a chance to bring together family, friends and regulars. I had both my brothers travel up from the South and the Midlands. It was their first opportunity to see what I have been working so hard for, since beginning my diplomas two years ago.”

Based in the Lancashire market town of Great Harwood, the new salon gave Karen the chance to create her own ideal working environment, for both herself and her clients. “I want to make the salon feel like the clients are coming to visit a friend at a home,” Karen continues. “The objective was to make it feel warm, light and welcoming. I want my clients to feel they are in the hands of a beauty therapist that is professional, practical and creative in equal measure.”

To create this effect, Karen opted for a chic yet professional decor. “I chose clean, fresh and neutral colours,” Karen reveals. “I went for grey and white shades with French Country style furniture. I chose accessories that I can just swap around for the different seasons. The use of mirrors creates a brightness and an openness for the salon. I also spent some time looking for a frame for my polishes, as this is a focal point for the wall behind my nail table – the heart of the salon.”
