Salon in the Spotlight: Noir Beauty, Emsworth, Hampshire

Having started her beauty business in the spare room of her family home, Kelly Checketts outgrew the space after three years. “I loved it but, having three children and two sausage dogs, it wasn’t always practical when working evenings,” Kelly laughs. “I knew I wanted to branch out into education, so I would eventually need more space.”

In the first lockdown last year, Kelly’s husband built her a new salon in the garden. “It’s perfect,” she beams. “I knew when I saw the space that I wanted a corner sofa. My husband built one in and now my clients have somewhere to relax.
“Clients can have a seat and a coffee or champagne while we fill out consultation cards.”
Welcoming and fresh, the salon’s décor draws inspiration from a number of sources. “I decided to go for a minimal look, while also bringing in some art deco touches with golds and greens,” Kelly adds.
“One of my twins loves Frida Khalo, so we incorporated botanical elements inspired by her, too.”
