Inside the award-winning Stourbridge nail & beauty salon entering a new era

Chantal Chambers joined West Midlands beauty space, Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon, as a work experience student. Today, she is proud to be the owner of the award-winning business, with a strong team culture, loyal community of clients and stunning recent refurbishment.

Chantal’s beauty career began at 18 years old, when after only one week of work experience at Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon, the then owner offered her a full-time position. By working in the salon, alongside holding down a second job in a pub, she developed the skills and experience that would shape her future.
Five years later, Chantal was given the opportunity to take over the business. “I always knew deep down that this was what I wanted to do,” she says. “Taking that risk was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
Over the past 14 years, Chantal has grown Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon from a team of three into a thriving business employing 10 talented professionals. Today, it is recognised as one of the West Midlands’ leading beauty destinations.

“Owning such a successful salon can be stressful,” Chantal admits. “But I have a fantastic team around me who help shoulder the responsibilities.”
One of her proudest achievements has been receiving two letters from her local MP, recognising Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon’s contribution to the local community, as the business regularly supports charitable initiatives.

From the very beginning, Chantal’s vision has been to create more than just a place for beauty treatments. The salon has become a welcoming destination where clients feel genuinely cared for from the moment they arrive.
“I believe every client deserves to feel welcome, respected and confident from the moment they walk through the door,” Chantal states, adding that the team is always on hand to greet clients and offer a selection of refreshments before their appointments begin.

“The values at the heart of the business are quality, creativity, professionalism and exceptional customer care,” Chantal shares. A key part of maintaining these values is education.
“We regularly attend training courses and keep up-to-date with beauty products,” she continues. “We are committed to providing high-quality nail services using excellent products, maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and paying close attention to every detail.”

Teamwork is also at the heart of Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon’s success. Chantal comments: “The team play a huge part. We all have our own roles and support each other wherever we can. We work like clockwork.”
A new era
Another way Chantal is ensuring the salon provides the highest level of service possible is through investing in the space itself. After more than a decade with a clean, clinical aesthetic, she had the idea to build something completely different: a luxurious spa-like space that offers clients an escape from everyday life. “I wanted to create a bespoke, calming environment,” she says.

The refurbishment began taking shape over the past year, with Chantal creating mood boards and working alongside interior designers to bring her vision to life. Together, they selected a warm, neutral colour palette, ambient lighting and bespoke furnishings.

One of the biggest priorities for Chantal was completing the refurbishment without closing the business. Decorations were carried out during bank holidays, while the installation of new nail desks required meticulous planning.
“It was like a military operation,” she laughs. “The old desks came out on a Sunday morning, the new ones arrived a few hours later, and everything was ready for Monday morning.”

The transformation has exceeded expectations. Clients have praised the salon’s fresh, modern appearance, while the environment has also attracted a significant number of new customers.
For Chantal and her team, the redesign has reignited their passion for the business. “It’s given us a new love for the salon,” she says. “We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve created together.”
The power of community
Chantal credits loyal clients as one of the biggest reasons behind Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon’s success.
Most recently, the business was awarded Muddy Stilettos’ Warks & West Midlands Best Nail Salon 2026: an achievement Chantal says was made possible thanks to the support of clients. “Local businesses were nominated, then we had to get votes to win. We have a huge client base, so I believe this helped us take the top spot,” she explains.
Speaking on the impact of the award, Chantal says: “It sets us apart from other local salons. We strive to be the best in our area, and we have clients that travel miles to see us.”
The win adds another achievement to Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon’s growing list of accolades, with the business also a finalist for the Scratch Stars Nail Salon of the Year category 2025.
The future
Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon continues to evolve. The salon has recently introduced lymphatic drainage massage, which has proved hugely popular with clients.

While Chantal remains passionate about growing the business, she also values the balance that years of hard work have created. “Success for me now is having a business that allows me to take my little boy to school and pick him up when I can,” she smiles. “It’s taken years to achieve that balance, but spending more time with my family while the business thrives is what success looks like to me.”
With an award-winning team, loyal client community and beautifully transformed interior, Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon certainly has an exciting future ahead of it.
