Green Circle Salons, a North American beauty waste recovery service and the world’s first sustainable salon solution, has announced the first Carbon Neutral Salon Certification.

The firm helps the North American salon industry to reduce its environmental footprint, with Green Circle Salons members empowered to recover up to 95% of their beauty waste through its award-winning programme. Each year, Green Circle Salons recycles and repurposes over one million pounds of waste.

But now Green Circle Salons’ programmes also include the Carbon Neutral certification, which offsets all the carbon emissions produced by a salon, including those that they cannot avoid generating in their day-to-day operations, to create true carbon neutrality.

Shane Price, founder and CEO of Green Circle Salons comments:

“We are thrilled to certify our network of salons to offer carbon neutral services. That means that when a guest visits a Green Circle Salons Certified Salon to look beautiful, they can also feel great knowing their hair cut or hair color was performed in a carbon neutral way without contributing to Global Warming! A true win-win for our industry, and for the planet.”

The announcement of the certification comes after a research study by Modern Salon, a US resource aimed at salon professionals, found that 88% of beauty professionals think it’s important to work in a sustainable salon. Similarly, 60% of salon guests would consider changing salons if they knew all the waste from their visit would be recovered.

Gene Juarez Salons and Spas was the first salon group and Green Circle Salons member to be certified as carbon neutral.

“Since 2015, we have been recovering and recycling our salon, spa and beauty waste, and more recently, PPE waste with Green Circle Salons. Green Circle Salons’ Carbon Neutral Salon Certification allows us to offset 1,718 tons of carbon emissions every year,” said president of salon and spa operations at the corporation, Jamie DeMarco. “Our guests can feel great knowing that their services are fully carbon neutral and they are supporting a sustainable business.”
