A number of nail techs and business owners have launched the Salon Standards Alliance, an organisation to create videos for consumers in the UK & Ireland to help them understand and promote safe salon practice.

“The idea stemmed from a ‘Madge’s Chat ShowZoom group organised by Marian Newman,” comments Sue Davies, UK industry veteran. “Participants were discussing how to make clients feel confident in returning to salons and nail tech, Tracy Shelverton, from Holland, revealed how members of the Dutch nail sector had raised funds to create some videos to promote safe standards.”

Supported by a number of other techs within the group, an action plan began, with the Dutch techs giving Sue and others access to their video. “A version for salons in the UK & Ireland is being planned and edited and a Crowdfund fundraiser has been launched to cover costs and create more health, safety & business based videos,” Sue continues.

“The video will be beauty focused as many of us offer more than nails. We feel that the more generic the message, the more widely the video will be used.

“The point is to create something client facing but that will also give some reminders to professionals, too about health & safety.”

The more support the Salon Standards Alliance receives, the wider the message can be spread.
