Scratch chats to Lauren Adams of Get Nailed By Lau about her future goals and how she created this summery Hawaiian floral nail art design…

I’ve always loved doing my own nails, as well as the nails of friends and family members. During the pandemic, I was furloughed from my office job, which eventually ended up in redundancy. I decided that was the time to enrol on a nail technician course and attain a qualification.

My signature, go-to nail style is a classic nude with a bit of an arty twist. I love having a blank canvas base on which you can add a pop of colour or a little intricate design. My favourite products to use are predominantly from The Gel Bottle.

How-to:

To create these nails I used The Gel Bottle Rubber Base, Marshmallow is the base colour on the nails. From pinky to index finger I used the shades Ocean Safari, Peacock, Jungle and Runway. I was intending to just leave the flowers as cute little daisies, but I ended up getting carried away! They didn’t pop enough and just seemed to blend almost, so I used a liner brush and added the shade Daisy as an outline. I tried to not stick too closely to the actual outline for a pop-art effect and I loved the look it created. I finished it off with the Extreme Shine Top Coat, an absolute must for me as it gives it such an incredible shine.

Having worked a small amount in the nail industry, most of which selling press-on nails on my Etsy shop, it’s difficult to pick a fault with anything. The support online is incredible! Having so many like minded people to glean inspiration from and admiring your work too is such a lovely thing. It makes me excited for the future and once the lockdown is over the chance to grow my mobile nail business, which is a goal of mine.

The highlight so far for me, as silly as it sounds, was selling my first pair of press-on nails on Etsy. It’s only small but it felt like such an achievement for me, as it took me a while to take the leap and start putting my work out there. Building my Instagram following and having the support from so many talented artists honestly means so much to me and may even be just as much of a highlight.

I feel like my future in nails is such an exciting thought. I’m looking to grow my mobile business and take on many more clients. Of course, the ultimate goal is to open my own nail salon, or be able to convert a space I already have into one. From the support I’ve had this year, it has really grown my confidence and made me realise it is definitely my passion. To be able to do it as a full time job is the goal and now feels like it is definitely possible.
