UK cancer support charity Look Good Feel Better has shared the results of its 2019 UK Patient Survey, which reveals the positive impact the organisation has had on those suffering.

Look Good Feel Better provides workshops and advice for women, men and young adults undergoing treatment for any type of cancer. Each group session is led by trained volunteers and provides a chance to meet others in a similar situation, as well as teaching useful skills and techniques to help manage the side-effects of cancer treatment such as skin changes or the loss of eyebrows and eyelashes.

The Look Good Feel Better’s 2019 UK Patient Survey, held between 1 November 2018 and 31 October 2019, saw 2,661 respondents and was conducted in order to better understand how the charity’s work has affected cancer patients’ self-confidence.

Key results include:

  • 97.6% claimed to be satisfied with what they learnt during the workshop.
  • 97.8% said that the programme had been valuable in improving their self-image.
  • 93.8% felt confident about their appearance after attending the workshop.
  • 96.8% felt supported by their group.
  • 95.4% agreed that their appearance made them feel more confident.
  • 99.2% would recommend the Look Good Feel Better workshop to others.

“People undergoing cancer treatment who attend our workshops receive practical advice on dealing with the physical changes that cancer treatment can have,” comments Sarahjane Robertson, chief executive of Look Good Feel Better UK.

“The support they encounter during the session will also have an important impact on their sense of well-being. The survey findings show that our workshops do make a significant difference to how people feel about themselves, helping them regain a feeling of confidence and self-esteem.”
