American singer-rapper Machine Gun Kelly has launched a ‘gender-neutral’ nail polish line inspired by self-expression and creativity for all, whatever their age or however they identify.

Named UN/DN LAQR – a simplified version of the words ‘undone’ and ‘lacquer’, the collection of shades is based not on seasonal or nail trends but on core colours that can be mixed and matched to create statement nail art. Machine Gun Kelly hopes that these statement looks will start conversations that his introverted fans can get involved in, helping them to gain confidence.

All of the UN/DN LAQR shades are also vegan and cruelty-free.mgk nail varnish 1

“I don’t like to just stop at clothes when it comes to expressing who I am. Nail polish serves as a true vessel of self-expression — I can express myself one way today and do it all again tomorrow with something different,” said Machine Gun Kelly in a statement.

“When I do my nails, that’s me wearing my own thoughts and making a statement. To me, polish is not just a colour, it’s an intention. Every colour has a purpose.”

In an interview with HYPEBEAST, the singer-rapper, who has sported intricate nail looks for years on the red carpet, added: “If you take some time to put an intention into how you want to be seen, down to the colour that you put on your nails, how you design them or if you use the detail brush to write a phrase on there, that is an extension of what you’re saying about yourself.”

Making up UN/DN LAQR’s debut collection are 10 colours, ranging from neutrals and soft pastels to bold, popping hues and a black – inspired by when Machine Gun Kelly would colour his nails with Sharpies at school. Alongside these are five top coats, both in matte and gloss formulas.

Also in the collection are eight curated trio sets, three polish kits and two detail brushes.

The nail polish line was developed and launched in partnership with creative marketing brand incubator, Unlisted Brand Lab. Its founder and chief executive officer, Candy Harris, commented:

“It’s been an honour to work with Machine Gun Kelly to transcend the nail polish category and foster a cultural shift that has been a long time coming. This is just the beginning, we are setting out to bring a new voice to beauty with a lifestyle brand that will spark a conversation well beyond the colour drops.”
