Sheffield nail salon receives council award for ‘Best Christmas Display’

Hillsborough nail salon, Nails For You, has been recognised by Sheffield Council for its striking Christmas decorations, which have been the topic of conversation amongst locals.

Featuring multiple Christmas trees, wrapped presents, faux snow, reindeer and plenty of lights, almost every inch of the salon space is covered in Christmas decorations, and one of the pedicure chairs is piled high with fun nods to the festivities.

Passionate nail artist and educator, Loi Van Nguyen, has owned the salon for over a decade, and believes that decorating it is ‘very important’.

The multi-award winner, who hails from Vietnam and has over 15 years’ experience in nails, changes the décor of the salon seasonally. He comments: “Aesthetics are very important in the nail industry. I like to showcase my creativity and offer my clients an exciting environment for their nail appointment.

“I began decorating the salon for Christmas in November, and it took two weeks.”

Van Nguyen reveals that his local council opened a competition to private and small businesses in Hillsborough, Sheffield, to decorate their spaces for Christmas. The aim? To attract visitors to the area following a tough few years for businesses.

Nails For You, with its fun figurines in the window and mini Christmas village inside the salon, scooped first place for Best Christmas Display and Loi and his team were awarded a plaque, bouquet of flowers and bottle of Champagne.

“I hope the decorations have spread some Christmas spirit. Now I need to start thinking about next year!”
